About Restorative Dentistry

Fillings

Not too long ago, filling in a hole or cavity had only one solution, metal or amalgam fillings. Now, after many years of advanced science in dentistry, we can now fill a tooth with resin compounds that bond well to your tooth to create a strong durable filling that blends in with the color of your teeth.

Restorations with composites can usually be completed with a single appointment, and are the best alternative to amalgam fillings. The dentist removes the weak decayed area and fills it in with composite resin. It is hardened with an ultraviolet light. Finally it is polished to make it feel smooth to the tongue and surrounding tissue.

Composite fillings are very aesthetic as they easily match the color of surrounding teeth, providing a natural look. Fillings do not last forever so it is recommended that you visit the dentist regularly for further examinations. Fillings can wear down or simply fall out due to the force caused by chewing over time.

Crowns

A crown, also commonly referred to as a cap, is recommended when a natural tooth requires coverage due to damage, large amounts of decay, trauma, root canals and large fillings. It is a stronger solution than a veneer. It often combines porcelain and metal materials but there are many different material options. The porcelain is used to match the shade of the rest of your teeth for a very natural appearance. Crowns are also a solution for cosmetic repairs as they are long-lasting and durable. A minimum of two appointments is required. We start by taking moulds of your teeth and then shape the tooth the crown will cement upon. Once the lab has completed the crown and returned back to us, we use a permanent dental cement to adhere it to your natural tooth. Crowns are often covered by dental insurance providers when x-rays and photos are sent in to provide them with the knowledge that a tooth requires the protection of a crown for longevity.

Preventative Dentistry

Our hygienists at Willow Dental Care are highly trained to take care of your oral health. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene at home as well as come into our practice for routine visits. We can check your dental insurance provider to see what is covered and how often you are covered to come in for routine exams and cleanings. This is also a great way to catch any dental concerns before they grow bigger.
