About Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the overall appearance of your mouth. This factors in your teeth, gums, and smile. At Willow Dental Care Vancouver, we offer cosmetic options while still keeping your oral health in mind.

Options include:

  • Bonding
  • Crowns – Also fall under restorative
  • Veneers
  • Teeth whitening
Bonding

We use resin filling material that matches the shade of your teeth to cover areas, mask discolorations, imperfections and to help fill in gaps between teeth. An ultraviolet light hardens and cures the resin, and a buffing tool is used to shape and polish to give you a great smile and natural appearance. Bonding is fast and cost efficient and can be completed in one visit. Most dental insurance providers cover this procedure.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers are used to treat discolored teeth, fix undersized teeth, gaps in teeth, and minor misalignments. Veneers are made in a lab to match the contours of your teeth. Durability of veneers have been tested and found to last for years. A minimum of two appointments is required. We start by taking moulds of your teeth and then shape the tooth the veneer will cement upon. Once the lab has completed the veneer and returned back to us, we use a permanent dental cement to adhere it to your natural tooth. Not all dental insurance providers cover this procedure but we are always happy to send information for a pre-approval to check your eligibility.

Crowns

A crown, also sometimes referred to as a cap, is recommended when a natural tooth requires coverage due to damage, large amounts of decay, trauma, root canals and large fillings. It is a stronger solution than a veneer. It often combines porcelain and metal materials but there are many different material options. The porcelain is used to match the shade of the rest of your teeth for a very natural appearance. Crowns are also a solution for cosmetic repairs as they are long lasting and durable. A minimum of two appointments is required. We start by taking moulds of your teeth and then shape the tooth the crown will cement upon. Once the lab has completed the crown and returned back to us, we use a permanent dental cement to adhere it to your natural tooth. Crowns are often covered by dental insurance providers when x-rays and photos are sent in to provide them with knowledge that a tooth requires the protection of a crown for longevity.

Teeth Whitening

We offer two whitening solutions in our practice. You can choose to have whitening done in our practice with two appointments one week apart. You will lay back and relax for up to 1.5 hours while our staff isolates your gums and applies a strong solution to the teeth that aids in removing stains and imperfections. You will return one week later to have the same treatment performed for the best results. It is recommended to avoid foods and beverages that can easily cause staining during this time as the teeth can be more sensitive to staining at this time.

You can also choose to try our take home option. Our staff will take moulds of your teeth and create custom trays for you to use conveniently at home. We provide a gel solution with instructions that you use along with the trays to whiten your teeth. The gel is not as strong as what is used in the practice and therefore, this option can take a bit longer to see results.

Both options are typically not a covered benefit under dental insurance providers.
