About Root Canals
A root canal is recommended when the nerve inside the root of the tooth is infected. The procedure includes removing the infected pulp and nerve within the root of the tooth, cleaning and shaping the inside of the canals and then filling those canals. It is then highly recommended to have a crown placed over the tooth to protect in future as the tooth may become more brittle and prone to chipping or breaking without a vital nerve. This is considered a basic treatment and most dental insurance providers cover this as a benefit.
